Lau Nau:
Lau Nau is one of the more interesting names in the contemporary music scene in Finland. Her songs are imbued with a cinematic breadth of vision and her idiosyncratic, finely honed sound world builds on fragile, spectral otherness. She works using both acoustic and electronic instruments, from field recordings to analogue synthesizers, from vocals and traditional instruments to musique concrete and found objects.
Besides of performing as Lau Nau, she composes, produces and performs music for new films, silent films, theatre, dance and sound installations. Her works have been nominated to various music prizes as Teosto-, Emma-, Jussi- and Femma prizes.
Lau Nau’s first solo albums were released in the US (Locust music 2005 & 2008). The debut album, ‘Kuutarha’, won acclaim from the likes of Pitchfork and Dusted, with The Wire naming the LP in their top 50 albums of 2005, and citing her Philadelphia show of that year amongst “60 concerts that shook the world”. In 2017 Lau Nau’s 5th album “Poseidon” was released in three continents (Europe, USA, Japan). The album has garnered a wide acclaim across media and fans, won the main prize of Femma-gala and was nominated for the Emma prize.
Lau Nau also performs in in Bye/Fredriksson/Kosminen/Naukkarinen and has a solo synth/violin project Subatlantti. She has been playing in various improv bands as IAX, Maailma, Hertta Lussu Ässä, Kiila, Avarus, the Anaksimandros, Päivänsäde, Kemialliset Ystävät, Chamellows and others.
“Special Guests”:
While there’s no denying they are special, the composition of this group is no secret. “Special Guests” are the unnamed/unnameable trio of Tara Burke (Fursaxa, etc), Brooke Sietinsons (Espers, etc) & Nathalie Shapiro performing homespun drone music with vocals, harmonium & guitar.
Jeffrey Alexander:
Jeffrey Alexander. Founding member of The Iditarod in 1996, BF/BS in 2003 and Dire Wolves in 2008. Joined JOMF in 2013. Former label owner of Magic Eye Singles and Secret Eye Records. Also toured with and featured on recordings by Kemialliset Ystävät (Finland), Avarus (Finland), Es (Finland), Fursaxa, Christina Carter, Gravenhurst (UK), Stefano Pilia-Andrea Belfi-Jeffrey Alexander Trio (Italy/USA).
