Unsocial Art was born in Buenos Aires , Argentina. He was a founder member of Reynols who spawned over 100 releases. He also has more than 100 solo releases and collaborations on labels like: P.S.F., Blossoming Noise, No-Fi, Porter, RRR, Riot Season, Kning Disk, Beta-Lactam, Sedimental,Alt.Vinyl, Feeding Tube, etc. He has toured extensively in Japan, Europe, USA, Australia, NZ & Latin America and has collaborated with musicians like: Pauline Oliveros, Lee Ranaldo, Jim O’Rourke, Phill Niblock, Otomo Yoshihide, Francisco López, Daniel Menche, Yoshimi, Eddie Prevost, Makoto Kawabata, KK Null, Mats Gustafsson, Rick Bishop, Toshimaru Nakamura, L.A.F.M.S., Thomas Dimuzio, Tetuzi Akiyama, Lasse Marhaug, Ashtray Navigations, Nihilist Spasm Band, Rapoon, Birchville Cat Motel, The New Blockaders, Kaffe Mathews, Jaap Blonk, Jazkamer, C.Spencer Yeh, Okyung Lee, Avarus, & Kemialliset Ystavat.
His music always has strong experimental sense and usually based on high-skilled techniques of prepared sound, tape manipulations, processing of field recordings, live electronics, objects, cymbals, synthesizers, computer tools, playing traditional (both acoustic and electric) instruments as well as self-built, strange and unusual instruments (eg. unstringed guitar). Art has composed music for films by directors like Claudio Caldini, Sergio Subero, Guillermo Ueno & Pablo Mazzolo. He currently coordinates a Field Recordings Workshop at Centro de Investigaciones Artisticas and Cobra Libros in Buenos Aires, and he has also ran workshops in Sweden, Norway, Switzerland, Belgium, Denmark, Germany, England, Mexico, Peru, Chile, United States, Australia, New Zealand & Japan. Art will be performing in trio with Ashley Tini & Scott Verrastro.
Ashley Tini is a percussionist, hair-stylist and former graffiti artist born and currently based in South Philadelphia. Her work seeks to create altered states by challenging concepts of ritual and their relation to time and place. Equally versed in 20th and 21st century concert music, free improv, Ghanaian Ewe, and Central African Pygmy music. Tini is invested in music that refracts folkloric concepts through contemporary contexts.
As a concert marimba player, she has performed solo and chamber works by Steve Reich, Susie Ibarra, Mohammed Fairouz and Matthew Welch at venues like Carnegie Hall, the Kauffman, and the Kimmel Center, but she’s also committed to performing in DIY spaces and institutional settings. Tini has also been a featured guest on concerts and recordings by Broken Social Scene, Do Make Say Think, and Feist.
Duomo, her chamber duo with percussionist Emily Strachan, specializes in commissioning works by living women composers who offer new presentations for percussion.
Tini has devoted extensive research to Exotica, a genre that spawned its own set of cultural rituals by taking ritualistic music completely out of context. In summer 2016, she was a resident artist at the estate of famed Exotica composer Elisabeth Waldo, who studied with Jascha Heifetz and worked closely with Les Baxter, Yma Sumac, and Billy May. They premiered a concert of chamber music for indigenous Pre-Columbian American instruments.
Ashley holds a Bachelors of Music in performance from The University of Kansas, where she studied under with Ji Hye Jung. Her work appears on the Naxos, Ecstatic, Constellation and High Two Labels.
Percussionist Scott Verrastro utilizes a plethora of sticks, brushes, bells, shakers, cymbals and gongs, bowed metal, contact mics, and household items — in addition to a traditional drum kit — to coax a wide palette of sounds. Verrastro received a degree in music literature from Northeastern University in Boston and continues to examine many forms of music, including all styles of improvisation and traditional folk. His improv psych band Kohoutek explores many territories, veering from drony Krautrock-inspired psych to abstract noise freak-outs and everything in between. Other projects include Curanderos (with members of Bardo Pond), Kuschty Rye Ergot (with John Stanton) and a percussion duo with Nathan Bowles (Steve Gunn/Pelt/Black Twigs). Past and present collaborations include Damo Suzuki, Marshall Allen, Peter Brotzmann, Jandek, Gibby Haynes, Elliott Levin, Paul Flaherty, Khan Jamal, George Kinney (of Golden Dawn), Richard Pinhas (of Heldon), Mike Tamburo, Rat Bastard, Kenny Millions, Little Howlin’ Wolf, John Dikeman, Anthony Pirog and many more.
Wall Wymyn is the Philadelphia-based duo of Kate McGuire and Ellen Foster. Sometimes harsh and sonically dense while at other times spare and quiet, they draw on the timbres and harmonic resonances created by their respective instrumentations to build an improvised sound influenced as much by early Whitehouse as by Joan La Barbara or the Theatre of Eternal Music. McGuire works with handmade electronics to create thick clusters of square waves and voice-responsive sounds, mixing in sung straight tones, staccato ululations, glottal pops, and rumbling multiphonics. For this project, Foster, a classically trained violinist, departs from melodic terrain, playing through delay effects to create layers of slowly-evolving drones, rhythmic patterns, and dry,scraping textures.
